Elaine Hughes & Angela Davies

In the Uni library I spotted this exhibition, which I thought was gorgeous.
Its by two artists, Elaine Hughes and Angela Davies
its called:
Marking moments: A Years Journey in the Life of an Artist

They were given a brief to produce two books marking the course of their year, they worked on a page a month.
It started with setting themselves a theme to think about and respond to: cakes flowers, words from a song, even the Royal wedding.
It then evolved into something more personal, they created pages that reflected what they were thinking about or what was happening in their lives that particular month.
I love the quirkiness of this project, it feels spontaneous and fun, the collection of material has been well thought out and works together
Very inspiring........!

  1. Their style reminds me of Sabrina Ward-Harrison. I like how it's ultimately just about them living, and then responding to the things which happen to them everyday.

  3. I am loving the overlaying of colours in this work, it's almost creating some musty vibrant colours that attract me to it. This has left me wanting to see more. Use of text is also interesting. Would it look different if the text was in a bigger font or different colour? Yummy words also.

  4. I like their varied use of techniques also the simple hand and machine stitches. The use of layers and different fabrics and surfaces makes the work so tactile. As I am interested in letters and words, I can learn a lot from how they have used text.
