Debbie Smyth

One artists work, who I really admire is Debbie Smyth, she is a textile artist most identifiable by her statement thread drawings; these playful yet sophisticated contemporary artworks are created by
stretching a network of threads between accurately plotted pins.
Her work beautifully blurs the boundaries between fine art drawings and textile art, flat and 3D work, illustration and embroidery, literally lifting the drawn line off the page in a series of "pin and thread" drawings.

 Under the Rucorn Bridge
Debbie usually takes around 5 days to complete an installation

I like the way these pylons interact with each other

Simple and beautiful

  1. I have seen her work but thought it was stitched! What a briiliant bit of lateral thinking! How has she managed to make such sensitive marks and lines with this technique? Stunning.

  2. I like stuff like this, it looks time consuming so I appreciate it more! I think it would irritate me the fact that I wouldn't know how to store it well and it easily be destroyed. The pylons are my favourite!
